Nanchang, Jiangxi Province - March 17, 2023 was another memorable day for Shanghai MicroPort MedBot (Group) Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "MicroPort® MedBot®"). Prof. Liping Cai's team from the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanchang University (hereinafter referred to as the "First Affiliated Hospital of NCU") successfully completed the hysterectomy, and successfully extended the clinical application of Toumai® single-arm endoscopic surgical robot (hereinafter referred to as "Toumai® Single-arm") to the field of gynecological hysterectomy. This is the first time that Toumai® Single-arm has been applied to gynecological clinical surgery, demonstrating the core strength of Toumai® Single-arm in the field of gynecological clinical application. Such achievements show that the domestic self-developed surgical robot represented by Toumai® Single-arm is constantly pioneering and innovating, giving full play to its own advantages, expanding achievable surgical methods, and bringing good news to female patients.
The successful completion of the Toumai® single-arm surgical robot-assisted laparoscopic hysterectomy is an important milestone of the registered clinical trial of gynecology, and it is also an important manifestation of the MicroPort® MedBot®'s cooperation with the hospital to empower doctors and benefit patients with cutting-edge single-port technology.
The patient was a 50-year-old female who was found to have pelvic mass during physical examination seven months ago. The MRI at the First Affiliated Hospital of NCU found possible uterine fibroids, uterine adenomyomatosis and posterior myomas. Based on the patient's lesion location, surgical needs, surgical results and effect, and the female patient's pursuit of aesthetic results of mini-invasive surgery, Prof. Liping Cai's team decided to perform hysterectomy using the Toumai® single-arm robot.
The patient was placed in the lithotomy position, and after successful general anesthesia, one endoscope and three serpentine instruments were placed through a single incision of only 3 cm. Then the surgery officially began. Prof. Cai used the flexible bending performance of the serpentine-arm surgical tool to stop bleeding and cut blood vessels and ligaments at the best angle. Namely, the left fallopian tube was removed along the left mesosalpinx, the proper ligament, round ligament and broad ligament of the ovary were cut, the uterine artery and parametrium were cut by electrocoagulation, and the bladder was pushed down. With the help of serpentine endoscope 3D HD field amplification, tremor filtration technology, and accurate and flexible serpentine surgical arm, Prof. Liping Cai completely removed the uterus and sutured the vaginal stump. After checking that the stump was free of bleeding, the robotic instruments were removed and the skin was sutured. The whole surgery was completed smoothly and efficiently, and the patient returned to the ward safely after the surgery.
The successful completion of the first registered clinical trial of gynecology means that Toumai® Single-arm has made a breakthrough in the clinical application of obstetrics and gynecology. The application of Toumai® single-arm surgical robot in the field of gynecology not only minimizes the surgical wounds of patients and maximizes the protection of organs, but also greatly reduces the labor intensity of doctors, truly benefiting doctors and patients. Going forward, MicroPort® MedBot® will continue to carry out more practical and in-depth cooperation with front-line medical workers, actively implement the surgical concept of minimally invasive and precise smart medical care, and constantly expand the achievable surgical methods. Led by the belief of "Make Surgery Easier, Safer and Less Invasive", the single-arm surgical robot, which is more minimally invasive, smarter and has a better operating experience, will benefit more patients.
