Guizhou, China - On August 2, 2022, Shanghai MicroPort MedBot (Group) Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “MicroPort® MedBot®”) and the Affiliated Hospital of Guizhou Medical University (hereinafter referred to as the “hospital”) signed a cooperation agreement to build a Minimally Invasive Surgery Robotics Training Center, which is the first training center of this kind in Southwest China. The inauguration and signing ceremony of the training center was attended by President Shi Zuo, Vice President Wei Li of the hospital, heads of relevant departments of the hospital’s surgical management committee, and Mr. Yu Liu, Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer of MicroPort®MedBot® in the Laparoscopic and Minimally Invasive Surgery Training Base.

Shi Zuo, President of the hospital, said, “Since November 2019 when our hospital introduced overseas surgical robot products of the same kind, the total number of robotic surgeries has exceeded 1,000 cases in the past two and a half years, leading to significant improvements of the clinical capacity of relevant departments, and the minimally invasive surgical robots have been recognized by clinicians and the general public. Based on the establishment of the training center, the hospital will play a leading role in deepening the development of minimally invasive surgeries in the province. As there will emerge more self-developed minimally invasive surgery robots and more cutting-edge 5G technology, a growing number of advanced medical technologies will become available in county-, prefecture- and city-level medical institutions via 5G, thereby providing high quality medical services to people in southwest China including Guizhou.”

Wei Li, Vice President of the hospital, introduced the basic information of the Endoscopic and Minimally Invasive Surgery Training Center in the inauguration ceremony. He said that robotic surgeries embody the most sophisticated and frontier minimally invasive surgical technology and show where the surgical field is heading in the future. The establishment of the training center is a new starting point for minimally invasive technology to grow and thrive. It also provides as an excellent opportunity to cultivate more skilled personnel to get engaged in minimally invasive robotic surgeries, thus leading to continuous improvements of medical technology services.

Mr. Yu Liu, Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer of MicroPort® MedBot®, started his speech by introducing the basic information of the company and analyzing the current situation of domestic medical robots. He said, “With the establishment of the Minimally Invasive Surgery Robot Training Center at hospital, doctors in more local and county hospitals will have the opportunity to learn cutting-edge medical technology through our MicroPort® MedBot®, so that they can bring the up-to-date technology back to their hospitals, which will greatly expand the presence of the current medical surgical robot training services, therefore enabling ordinary people to have access to high-end medical services step by step without leaving the county and fulfilling our belief to Make Surgery Easier, Safer and Less Invasive.”

On behalf of the hospital, President Shi Zuo signed an agreement with Mr. Yu Liu to jointly build the Minimally Invasive Surgery Robot Training Center of the Affiliated Hospital of Guizhou Medical University, and they also unveiled a plaque together in commemoration of their partnership.

Finally, the participants visited the training center, and the relevant personnel of the surgical department carried out trial operations of the surgical robots on site.

The establishment of the training center marks a solid step of MicroPort® MedBot® Group to forge ahead in popularizing and promoting minimally invasive robotic surgeries, scaling new heights in a more precise and sophisticated manner by joining hands with the hospital. Looking ahead, there will arise a series of training courses, simulation operations, and animal experiments launched at the training center to promote and popularize robotic surgery technology in the province, striving to cultivating more professionals in the field of robotics for Guizhou Province and neighboring provinces and cities and serve patients with more advanced medical technology.
