Chuxiong, Yunnan --- Three consecutive cases of robot-assisted TKA have been successfully completed recently in the People's Hospital of Chuxiong Yi Autonomous Prefecture with Honghu  Orthopedic Surgical Robot ("Honghu") independently developed by MicroPort NaviBot (Suzhou) Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Shanghai MicroPort MedBot (Group) Co., Ltd.( MedBot® ). The surgeries were performed by Qingli Kong, director of Orthopedics Department III and his team of the People's Hospital of Chuxiong Yi Autonomous Prefecture, and Professor Chuan Li of No. 920 Hospital. The hospital is one of the MedBot® multi-center research teams of Yunnan Province. Its success in surgery symbolizes the opening of an era of orthopedic robot surgery. Honghu has a powerful 3D preoperative planning function, which can perform 3D segmentation and reconstruction of joints based on preoperative CT images of patients and provide patients with the operative plan for personalized prosthesis implantation. It can navigate and track in real time during the surgery, and its intelligent interaction with the surgeons and perfect control of surgical accuracy can achieve accurate angle control and accurate osteotomy at the millimeter level. Compatible with the MicroPort®Orthopedics medial-pivot knee system, the whole operation was completed smoothly and efficiently.

The three patients suffering from knee joint pain with limited activity for about 10 years, which seriously deteriorated their quality of life.

After careful and continual assessment, analysis and discussion of the patient's condition, the clinical expert team worked out a set of accurate personalized surgical plan and performed the CT 3D segmentation and reconstruction of the patient's knee joint through the robot system. This is the first case of robot-assisted TKA completed in the People's Hospital of Chuxiong Yi Autonomous Prefecture.

The human-computer interactive (HCI) operation platform guided the robotic arm registration and bone registration nimbly during the surgery. The robotic arms accurately positioned the expected planned position and assisted Director Qingli Kong in the osteotomy of femur and tibia. Compatible with the latest MicroPort®Orthopedics medial-pivot knee system, the whole operation was completed smoothly and efficiently.

Postoperative measurement shows that the actual osteotomy is completely consistent with the planned value. The patient recovered fast after the operation, and the force line had been accurately recovered, which proved the precise characteristics of Honghu.

Director Qingli Kong of Orthopedics Department III said that the operating interface of surgery robot is very user-friendly. It respects the doctors' traditional surgical habits and has a short learning curve. Compared with the traditional surgery, the 3D pre-operative planning function of robot is powerful, allowing doctors to collect more patient information during surgery and implant the prostheses in a more reasonable position. Meanwhile, it is unnecessary to open the femoral canal in a robot-assisted surgery, the patient suffered less bleeding and less trauma, and osteotomy can be conducted accurately. I hope that more doctors can have the opportunity to use the surgery robot to benefit more patients.
