Strasbourg, France – July 7, 2026 — MicroPort® MedBot™ announced that Dr. Mohit Bhandari, President of IRCAD India and a bariatric surgeon, completed ten robot-assisted bariatric procedures in a single surgical session using the Toumai® surgical robotic system, connecting IRCAD France in Strasbourg with IRCAD India in Indore.

Completed over approximately 11 hours, the procedures were performed across a transcontinental distance between France and India, demonstrating the Toumai® system's stable communication performance and reliable robotic control throughout a sustained series of robot-assisted operations.

The event brought together leading experts in robotic surgery, including Prof. Jacques Marescaux, President of IRCAD Global, who participated in the programme. Dr. Manoel Galvão Neto and Dr. Mahak Bhandari were also present at IRCAD India during the session, reflecting the international collaboration underpinning the initiative.

The achievement was recognised by the World Book of Records, London, which acknowledged Dr. Bhandari for performing the highest number of transcontinental tele-robotic gastric bypass procedures by a surgeon during a single session.

This milestone further demonstrates the operational reliability of the Toumai® surgical robotic system during high-volume telesurgical procedures and highlights the growing potential of robotic-assisted surgery to support international collaboration, surgical education, and broader access to specialist expertise.
