Oncorad Group and ORSI Academy Complete Bidirectional Intercontinental Robotic Telesurgery Between Africa and Europe

[Casablanca, Morocco / Melle, Belgium] – July 3, 2026— Oncorad Group and ORSI Academy announced the successful completion of a bidirectional intercontinental robotic telesurgery programme between Africa and Europe using the Toumai® surgical robotic system.

During the programme, a surgeon in Belgium remotely operated on a patient in Casablanca, Morocco, while simultaneously a surgeon in Morocco performed robotic surgery on a patient in Belgium. The procedures were conducted between Littoral Clinic Ain Diab in Casablanca and ORSI Academy in Melle, Belgium, using a dedicated high-speed communications network provided by Orange Maroc and its technology partners.

Unlike previous telesurgery demonstrations involving a single remote operation, this initiative featured two simultaneous cross-border robotic procedures performed in opposite directions, demonstrating the feasibility of real-time, bidirectional international surgical collaboration.

The milestone also marks the beginning of a strategic partnership between Oncorad Group and ORSI Academy to advance robotic surgery education across Africa. The collaboration combines ORSI Academy's internationally recognised surgical training programmes with Oncorad Group's clinical expertise to support surgeon education through simulation, mentoring, scientific exchange, and advanced robotic surgery training.

Prof. Redouane Samlali, Chief Executive Officer of Oncorad Group, commented:

"This initiative aims not only to introduce advanced technologies but also to strengthen surgical education, promote knowledge sharing, and support the long-term development of robotic surgery across Africa."

The programme reflects the growing role of robotic-assisted telesurgery in enabling international collaboration while expanding access to specialist surgical expertise beyond traditional geographic boundaries.
