Shenzhen, China —— The Clinical Study Kick-Off Meeting of Toumai® Laparoscopic Surgery Robot (Toumai®) developed by Shanghai MicroPort MedBot (Group) Co., Ltd. (MicroPort®MedBot®) as successfully held on March 31, 2022, in South China Hospital of Shenzhen University (hereinafter referred to as "South China Hospital") according to the “Exploratory Study Plan for Clinical Treatment through Urological Surgery”.

Professor Song Wu, president of South China Hospital, Professor Shijian Yi, Assistant president, Professor Cibo Huang, Assistant President, and Professor Feng Wang, chief physician of Urological Surgery, and their team members were present at the kick-off meeting of the project. Previously, the ten-member robot-assisted surgical team led by Professor Feng Wang of Urological Surgery challenged and overcame multiple difficulties, and successfully completed cases of simulation experiments with Toumai®.

President Song Wu, Professor Cibo Huang, Professor Shijian Yi, Professor Nan Liu, Professor Yongqiang Wang and Professor Feng Wang delivered a speech at the meeting successively, summarized and reported the previous training activities of Toumai® in South China Hospital, the training certificates were awarded, and detailed introduction was made to the "Exploratory Study Plan for Using Toumai® Laparoscopic Surgery Robot in Clinical Treatment through Urological Surgery". In the future, the two sides will give full play to their respective advantages, jointly build the R&D laboratories, and work together to deepen the technological innovation and clinical transformation research in robot-assisted medical treatment. The industry-university-study medical collaboration can speed up the verification, iteration and improvement of innovative medical robot products in practical application, and facilitates the rapid development of Chinese-developed medical robot industry with independent intellectual property rights.

Professor Shijian Yi, Assistant President, said: "Robot-assisted surgery is a high-end solution in the field of surgical treatment at present. It has broken through the bottleneck of traditional surgery, and provides the patients with more effective, more accurate and less invasive treatment services. In the past, this technology was monopolized by foreign brands, and the high prices of equipment and consumables frustrated many patients. Toumai®, which is independently developed by MicroPort® MedBot®, has broken through the 'bottleneck'.”

President Wu Song made a concluding speech at this meeting: "The initiation of clinical study is a good start. I hope that all departments can jointly build a clinical training and R&D center that cannot only meet the needs of clinical diagnosis and research in the hospital, but also become an influential center in South China to provide clinical training services to more doctors and contribute to the R&D of Chinese-developed high-end medical equipment.”

MicroPort® MedBot® Group has launched the R&D project in 2014, which covers five "Golden Solutions": laparoscopic, orthopedic, panvascular, trans-natural orifice and percutaneous surgical solutions. The Group is committed to meeting the cutting-edge development needs of minimal-invasive surgery, applying the cutting-edge research and industrial integration results in the fields of robotics, intelligent control, sensing and information, and innovatively providing a total solution program of intelligent robot-assisted surgery that can prolong and reshape life, leading the maturity and development of robotic surgery and shaping the era of ultra-intelligent surgery.

Mr. Yu Liu, Chief Commercial Officer of MicroPort® MedBot®, said: "One of the important reasons why we have selected South China Hospital as a partner is that it insists on establishing a medical system for the people, actively builds a high-quality and closely-integrated medical community, and integrates the advanced management with the clinical diagnosis and treatment experiences and technology. MicroPort® MedBot® will jointly promote the technical research and development and application development of MicroPort® MedBot®-assisted surgery with South China Hospital and provide all-inclusive high-end surgical treatment solutions to the majority of patients so as to realize the initial goal to "Make Surgery Easier, Safer and Less Invasive.”
