Xinjiang, China —— The team of Professor Ninghong Song from the People's Hospital of Kizilsu Kirgiz Autonomous Prefecture, Xinjiang (Xinjiang Kezhou People's Hospital) (Jie Yang, Yunqiang Shao, Jinyong Tian and Yiliyas) successfully completed the robot-assisted single-port laparoscopic high ligation of left spermatic vein with Toumai® Laparoscopic Surgical Robot (Toumai®) independently developed by Shanghai MicroPort MedBot (Group) Co., Ltd. (MicroPort® MedBot®) on March 23. It is the first time in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region to adopt the robotic assisted single-port laparoscopic technology in urological surgical ligation.

It is reported that the patient, who lived in Akto, suffered left scrotum falling and perineal discomfort without obvious inducement 2 years ago, but he paid no attention. Recently, as the symptoms worsened, he went to Kezhou People's Hospital out of admiration. B-ultrasonography indicated left epididymal cyst and hydrocele in the left testicle. In the subsequent diagnosis, the patient was diagnosed as having developed a left varicocele. Professor Ninghong Song's team made a detailed preoperative plan according to the patient's conditions. After communicating with the patient and his family, the team decided to use the Chinese-developed Toumai® to perform robot-assisted single-port laparoscopic high ligation of left spermatic vein on the patient.

The traditional varicocele is an open surgical operation, which is prone to recur after operation, but the high-order ligation is not likely to cause varicocele recurrence, and the effect is exact. Robot-assisted single-port laparoscopic high ligation of left spermatic vein has the advantages of little trauma, good cosmetic effect, quick recovery and low recurrence rate. “Zero bleeding” was basically achieved during the operation, and the incision within the umbilical ring will become "invisible" after the incision is healed.

"The successful implementation of the first case of robot-assisted single-port laparoscopic high ligation of left spermatic vein in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region has doubled our confidence in the Chinese-developed Toumai®. The clear 3D field of view and flexible and stable operation provided by Toumai® can help operators to complete a series of complicated operations with high precision within a very limited space. On the premise of ensuring the safety and effectiveness of treatment, it can reduce surgical trauma on the patients, relieve postoperative pain and promote postoperative rehabilitation”, said Director Jie Yang, assistant of president of the Board of Medical Aid to Xinjiang.

After Toumai® introduced, Xinjiang Kezhou People's Hospital has fully combined the technical expertise with the equipment advantages, and its urologic surgical team has already completed 4 cases of robot-assisted laparoscopic surgeries with the joint efforts of Professor Ninghong Song’s team. Experts of Jiangsu Province’s group-type Medical Aid to Xinjiang have not only brought advanced medical equipment to Xinjiang, but also brought advanced technology and medical concepts to the people of Xinjiang, which will promote the in-depth development of Medical Aid to Xinjiang. MicroPort® MedBot® will continue to provide more accurate and less invasive intelligent surgical solutions to and support medical staff and patients in the frontier area of China, and make surgery easier, safer and less invasive!
