Shanghai, China - The World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC) 2022 was held in Shanghai from September 1-3, 2022. Shanghai MicroPort MedBot (Group) Co., Ltd. (MicroPort® MedBot®) demonstrated a number of flagship products and won the SAIL Award, the most recognized award of the event, the "Treasure of the Pavilion" Award, and the Exemplary New Artificial Intelligence Application Award. Dr. Chao He, President of MicroPort® MedBot®, Mr.Yu Liu, Executive Vice President and Chief Business Officer of MicroPort® MedBot®, and Dr.Yangbin Chen, General Manager of MicroPort NaviBot (Suzhou) Co., Ltd. were invited to deliver speeches and participate in the discussion. Their forward-looking insights into the smart healthcare industry generated heated discussion among the audience and the media.

 

Since its inception in 2018, the WAIC has been successfully held for four sessions and has grown into the most influential industry event in the global AI field. This conference, with the theme of "Intelligent Connectivity and Infinite Multiverse", brought together more than 500 guests. They are all leading domestic and foreign AI scholars, well-known entrepreneurs and representatives of international organizations, including four Turing Award winners, one Nobel Prize winner, one Fields Medal winner, one Marr Prize winner, more than 80 domestic and foreign academicians, and over 20 university presidents. The forum covers four major areas of technological innovation, industrial application, rule of law and ethics and ecological conservation, involving more than 30 professional fields, including AI + Metaverse, smart health care and other global hot topics of artificial intelligence. The conference held a total of 121 events, with multi-location collaboration on both sides of the Huangpu River, resonating at home and abroad, and the total number of online viewers across the network exceeded 638 million. Compared with previous events, more audiences participated in this year’s event, companied by wider media coverage and greater industry influence.

 

With the deep integration of the new generation of artificial intelligence technology with the medical industry, MicroPort® MedBot® won three awards and was highly recognized by experts, media and other relevant parties. Its excellent robotics technology innovation and application capabilities, and its achievements and status in the industry also played an important role.

 

At the opening ceremony of the WAIC on September 1, Toumai® Laparoscopic Surgical Robot won the SAIL Award (Super AI Leader), the highest honor of the conference, among more than 800 projects worldwide. The conference commented that Toumai® is a laparoscopic surgical robot independently developed by China, which indicates our domestic surgical robots are capable of assisting doctors to complete complex surgeries in narrow spaces.

 

As one of the eight "Treasures of the Pavilion" selected at this year's conference, the Toumai® Laparoscopic Surgical Robot was evaluated by the famous media "The Paper" as follows: Toumai® has not only successfully completed the longest-distance 5G ultra-remote robotic surgery in the world so far, but also combined the advantages of robotics, which can realize more minimally invasive, precise, stable and safe surgical operations, and "Make Surgery Easier, Safer and Less Invasive". It is worth mentioning that Toumai® Laparoscopic Surgical Robot is the first domestic laparoscopic surgical robot approved for urology, which filled the gap in China and broke the monopoly of foreign technology.

 

On September 2, at the forum "Artificial Intelligence Empowers High-Quality Hospital Development" organized by Shanghai Shen Kang Hospital Development Center and Shanghai Artificial Intelligence Industry Association, and hosted by Shanghai Hospital Association Medical Artificial Intelligence Management Professional Committee and Shanghai Artificial Intelligence Industry Association Medical AI Special Committee, MicroPort® MedBot® won the "Exemplary New Artificial Intelligence Application Award". This demonstrates that MicroPort® MedBot® has made full use of AI, robotics, 5G and other technologies to empower hospital application scenarios, promoted the quality of diagnosis and treatment services, effectively improved patients' medical experience, and helped build an AI-enabled medical digital system.

 

During the conference, Dr. Chao He, President of MicroPort® MedBot®, Mr.Yu Liu, Executive Vice President and Chief Business Officer, and Dr. Yangbin Chen, General Manager of MicroPort® NaviBot® (Suzhou), were invited to share their insights on industry development and cutting-edge technologies in several important sub-forums, which attracted much attention from the participants.

 

On September 1, Mr.Yu Liu, Executive Vice President and Chief Business Officer of MicroPort® MedBot®, delivered a speech titled "Explore unknown | Shaping the era of super intelligent surgery" in the AI Leader SHOW session. He said that MicroPort® MedBot® is committed to smart health care and wants to truly put itself in the shoes of the people and optimize their needs for a healthy life. The robot-assisted surgery enjoys the following three benefits: first, to improve patient satisfaction with smaller incisions, safer surgery process, faster postoperative recovery, lower operating costs, and shorter hospital stays; second, to optimize the operator's operating experience, with more sensitive operations, clearer surgical fields, smarter assistance, and shorter learning cycles; and third, to reduce the cost of robotic surgery, expand the clinical demonstration applications of surgical robots, and meet the needs of patients in more departments.

 

On September 2, Dr.Chao He, President of MicroPort® MedBot®, was invited to participate in a roundtable discussion on the topic of "How far to go to achieve true machine intelligence" at the sub-forum of 2022 Intelligent Robotics Industry Development. He believes that in the future, as intelligent technologies evolve and grow, surgical robots would serve as a tool to assist doctors, helping them to reduce the learning curve and the difficulty of surgery, thus providing them with additional time to explore difficult cases and new diseases. Fundamentally, the surgical robot is a product developed by robotics and artificial intelligence technology, and is intended to pursue economy, directness and efficiency for specific medical scenarios and functions. These are the things we are working on with the MicroPort® MedBot®, and the points we want to make breakthroughs and overcome in the future.

 

On September 2, Dr.Yangbin Chen, General Manager of MicroPort® NaviBot®, gave a speech entitled "Current Situation and Prospects of Surgical Robotics Industrialization" at the sub-forum of AI-enabled Hospital Quality Development. He said that the current national policy encourages the development of domestic surgical robots, making robotic surgery gradually become the darling of the trends. MicroPort® MedBot® has laid out a life-cycle industrialization and intelligent operation and maintenance system, hoping to fully empower all medical stages before, during and after the consultation with artificial intelligence technology, and to lift the quality of the whole medical service.

 

During the WAIC conference, MicroPort® MedBot® brought along its three heavyweight products: the first 3D Electronic Endoscope with "green channel" - DFVision®, the first domestic four-arm Laparoscopic Surgical Robot - Toumai®, and Honghu, the first and only Orthopedic Surgical Robot equipped with Chinese company's self-developed robotic arms with its own intellectual property rights, making a splendid appearance. Among them, the Toumai® Laparoscopic Surgical Robot, as one of the eight "Treasures of the Pavilion" and the winner of the SAIL Award, the highest award of the conference, welcomed a large number of visitors. People from all social sectors came to see the domestic surgical robot and learn the story behind it. More than ten mainstream media, including Xinhua News Agency, Jiefang Daily, Dragon TV, The Paper, Xinmin Evening News, and Morning Post, also visited the MicroPort® MedBot® booth for interviews and photography, praising the outstanding achievements of the domestic surgical robot in cutting-edge technology and empowering hospitals.

 

With its award-winning flagship products, impressive sharing and live demonstration, MicroPort® MedBot® led the audience and media to explore the deep application scenarios behind the integration of artificial intelligence and medical treatment, stimulating new ideas and new perspectives.
