On January 11, 2023, MicroPort® Toumai® Laparoscopic Surgical Robot (hereinafter referred to as MicroPort® Toumai®) surgery was carried out for the first time in Henan Province, and broke the new record of domestic experts completing four consecutive surgeries in a single day with the assistance of MicroPort® Toumai®. In the Sixth Ward of Urology Department, Heyi District, the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University, the team of chief surgeon Prof. Xuepei Zhang and assistant doctors Peng Li, Zhaowei Zhu and Yunlong Liu successively completed four difficult cases of urology surgery with the assistance of MicroPort® Toumai®: robot-assisted laparoscopic radical resection of right ureteral carcinoma, robot-assisted laparoscopic partial nephrectomy, robot-assisted retroperitoneal tumor resection, robot-assisted laparoscopic radical resection of left ureteral carcinoma. In the face of high-intensity "continuous operations", MicroPort® Toumai® has demonstrated its excellent efficiency and stability comparable to imported surgical robots.
The scope of radical resection of ureteral carcinoma includes the affected kidney, the entire ureter and part of the bladder wall, etc. It's characterized by large surgical area and wide clearance range. Usually, after the resection of the kidney and upper ureter, it is necessary to change the position and rearrange the punctures for the subsequent resection of the middle and lower ureter and part of the inner bladder wall. Prof. Xuepei Zhang's team rearranged the punctures without changing the patient's position, and made use of the original punctures as much as possible, which brought certain challenges to the robot docking. However, the Toumai® robot adjusted the angle of the top plate without moving the position of the base, and successfully completed the docking.
During the surgery, Prof. Xuepei Zhang used the Toumai® robot to complete the perirenal tissue ionization, cutting. Thanks to its precise control and smooth operation, the entire process was "bloodless". The high-definition immersive 3D field of view and the sensitive, highly-flexible, easy-to-use wrist-type robotic arm of Toumai® assisted Prof. Xuepei Zhang to successfully complete the difficult radical resection of ureteral cancer.
