At the Gala, CMG host Tengyue Zhang performed a remarkable live demonstration — operating the Toumai^® Surgical Robot from Beijing to delicately pick pollen with a robotic arm located 12,000 kilometers away in Luanda, Angola.

The operation was executed with smooth control, near-zero latency, and ultra-clear visuals, showcasing Toumai^®’s powerful performance in long-distance signal transmission, real-time precision control, and millimeter-level accuracy — leaving the audience in awe.

This intercontinental demonstration symbolizes how technology is bridging medical distances and helping to redefine the future of global telesurgery.

Crossing 3,000 Kilometers to Challenge “the King of Cancers”

During the same program, Professor Rong Liu, a leading hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgeon, successfully performed a pancreatic tumor resection on a patient in Xinjiang — 3,000 kilometers away — using the Toumai^® Surgical Robot from Beijing.

The entire procedure was completed in just 108 minutes with minimal blood loss, and the patient was able to get out of bed the very next day.

Professor Liu said, “With the Toumai^® Surgical Robot, we’ve broken through spatial limits — allowing top experts to operate across great distances and enabling patients in remote areas to receive world-class treatment locally.”

He added that remote surgical systems not only enable real-time expert guidance and teaching, but also significantly enhance surgical training efficiency, paving new paths for talent cultivation and technology dissemination in complex surgery.
