Harbin, China --- Professor Jinzhi Xu, director of the Thoracic Surgery of the Fourth Hospital of Harbin Medical University, and his team completed the thoracic surgical robot-assisted resection of inherent segment of superior lobe of left lung on January 04, 2022 with Toumai^® Laparoscopic Surgical Robot (Toumai^®) independently developed by Shanghai MicroPort MedBot (Group) Co., Ltd. (MicroPort^® MedBot^®). This is the first confirmatory clinical trial thoracic surgery completed with the Chinese-developed surgical robot in Northeast China, symbolizing the overall development of multi-disciplinary and multi-professional clinical projects with Toumai^® in the Northeastern provinces. Toumai^® provides the surgeons with high-definition images, stability and precise operation beyond direct operation. The perfect cooperation of doctors with robots achieves the "human-machine integration” operation experience and gives full play to the advantages of robot-assisted surgery.

Compared with the traditional thoracoscopic surgery, the mechanical arm of Toumai^® is stable, and the high-performance instruments are exquisite in structure and flexible in movement, which can fully dissociate the pulmonary blood vessels, bronchi and other tissues. The surgeon can independently control the endoscope and adjust to the comfortable visual angle; the mechanical arm can also be switched to perform the precise operation and the tissues traction, thus improving the surgery efficiency.

After the surgery, Professor Jinzhi Xu evaluated that, "In this operation, assisted by the Chinese-developed Toumai^® robot, the anatomical structure can be accurately identified and dissociated, the lesions in the patient's lungs can be safely removed, and most functions of superior lobe of left lung can be preserved. Toumai^® has demonstrated excellent performance in minimal-invasive surgery, its mechanical arm filters out the hand tremor, and the high-power 3D HD field of vision magnified the local tissue to distinguish clearly, thus avoiding intraoperative injury to important nerves and blood vessels.”
