Berlin, Germany — The list of winners of 2022 German iF Design Award has been announced recently. Honghu Orthopedic Surgical Robot (Honghu) independently developed by Shanghai MicroPort MedBot (Group) Co., Ltd. (02252.HK, hereinafter referred to as "MicroPort®MedBot®") has stood among over 10,000 works from 57 countries and won the 2022 iF Product Design Award. It has been unanimously recognized by the international jury in five dimensions: design concept, product aesthetics, functional innovation, social influence and uniqueness.

 

Since iF Design Award was founded in 1953, it has been held regularly every year by the iF Industrie Forum Design, the oldest industrial design institution of Germany. It is honored as the "Oscar of Industry" and is one of the top and most influential industrial design awards in the world. Based on its "independent, rigorous and reliable" award concept, the award-winning products have been recognized by internationally-renowned designers from all fields in terms of originality, technology and quality. The iF Product Design Award is an innovative product design award among all iF design awards, which is open to enterprises only. The award-winning works may be printed with the iF logo.

 

Honghu is the first and only Chinese-developed orthopedic surgical robot equipped with robotic arms developed by the Chinese enterprise with independent intellectual property rights and has been approved by NMPA. As a surgery robot with the technical advantages of accurate operation, efficient collaboration, safety protection and high compatibility, it has been adopted to assist in total knee arthroplasty (TKA). Honghu utilizes the digital methods to empower the doctors' "hands" (robotic arms), "eyes" (navigation) and "brain" (intelligent planning). Its convenience in operation, short learning curve and other related advantages can effectively solve the clinical pain points of traditional surgery excessively dependent on the experience of surgeons and unable to achieve standardized and repeatable operations. Important breakthroughs have been made in core technologies such as R&D of highly dexterous and lightweight robotic arms, intelligent planning and navigation algorithms, and pushed the underlying technological development capability of orthopedic surgery robots of China up to the advanced international level. As one of the flagship products of MedBot®, Honghu won a Silver Pigeon Prize of Shanghai, A' Design Award of Italy and Design 100+ of Shanghai in 2021.
