Rome, Italy – June 4, 2026 — MicroPort® MedBot™ announced the completion of an intercontinental remote radical nephrectomy combined with Mayo Level III inferior vena cava (IVC) thrombectomy using the Toumai® surgical robotic system. The procedure was performed during the opening of the Challenges in Laparoscopy, Robotics & AI (CILR) Congress by Prof. Xuepei Zhang of the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University, operating remotely from Rome on a patient located in Zhengzhou, China.
Radical nephrectomy with Mayo Level III IVC thrombectomy is widely regarded as one of the most technically demanding procedures in urologic surgery. During the operation, the surgical team completed all key procedural steps remotely, including radical tumor resection, control of the retrohepatic inferior vena cava, removal of the tumor thrombus, and reconstruction of the inferior vena cava. The procedure was completed in less than 120 minutes with stable system performance throughout.

On June 5, Prof. Wang Baojun, a member of the team led by Academician Zhang Xu of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, performed an ultra-remote robot-assisted radical prostatectomy across a distance of approximately 8,300 kilometers using the Toumai® surgical robotic system. The procedure demonstrated standardized robotic workflow under ultra-long-distance network connectivity and further expanded clinical experience in robotic telesurgery.
Together, these procedures contribute to the growing body of clinical experience supporting the application of robotic-assisted telesurgery for complex urologic procedures performed across intercontinental distances.
