[Barretos, Brazil] – May 15, 2026 — MicroPort® MedBot™ announced that Brazil has launched the development of a national telesurgery network, with the Toumai® surgical robotic system serving as the technology platform supporting this healthcare infrastructure initiative. Beginning in July 2026, the dedicated network is expected to support broader implementation of telesurgery across Brazil's Unified Health System (Sistema Único de Saúde, SUS).

As part of the initiative, Brazil's Ministry of Health and Ministry of Communications signed a cooperation agreement to invest BRL 2 million in the construction of a high-performance network connecting Barretos and Rondônia to support the expansion of telesurgical services within the public healthcare system.
During the launch event, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, accompanied by the Vice President, the Minister of Health, and the Minister of Communications, participated in a telesurgical simulation using the Toumai® surgical robotic system.
Commenting on the initiative, Brazil's Minister of Communications said:
"We will use advanced technology to perform highly complex surgical procedures. This will drive a major digital transformation and improve the quality of healthcare services delivered to the Brazilian people."

The Toumai® surgical robotic system has supported telesurgical procedures in Brazil and across Latin America, contributing to the development of regional clinical collaboration and expanding access to specialist surgical care.
