[Shanghai, China] – April 30,2026— MicroPort® MedBot™ announced the publication of two prospective clinical studies in BMC Surgery evaluating the Toumai® surgical robotic system (MT-1000) in robot-assisted radical prostatectomy and robot-assisted radical gastrectomy. Conducted independently at Agostino Gemelli University Hospital in Italy and the Fourth Hospital of Hebei Medical University in China, the studies compared Toumai® with an established robotic surgical platform.
Both studies were conducted in accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki, and written informed consent was obtained from all participants.
The Italian randomized study enrolled 80 patients undergoing robot-assisted radical prostatectomy between May and November 2025 with 45-day follow-up. The primary endpoint—positive surgical margin rate—was identical between groups at 17.5%. No statistically significant differences were observed in operative time, estimated blood loss, hospital stay, or postoperative outcomes. Neither study group experienced intraoperative complications, device malfunctions, or conversion to open surgery. Experienced robotic surgeons were also able to transition to the Toumai® system within a relatively short learning period.
The Chinese comparative study included 128 patients undergoing robot-assisted radical gastrectomy. Clinical outcomes—including operative time, blood loss, lymph node harvest, postoperative recovery, hospital stay, and complication rates—were comparable between the Toumai® and comparator groups, with no statistically significant differences observed.
In their respective publications, both research teams noted that, alongside comparable clinical performance, the Toumai® surgical robotic system incorporates haptic (force feedback) technology and 5G-enabled telesurgery capabilities that may support surgical education, remote mentoring, and broader access to specialist surgical expertise.
The publication of these studies further expands the clinical evidence supporting the Toumai® surgical robotic system across multiple surgical specialties and healthcare settings.
