[Guangzhou, China] – April 17, 2026 — MicroPort® MedBot™ announced the publication of a clinical study in Hepatobiliary Surgery and Nutrition evaluating remote pancreaticoduodenectomy performed using the Toumai® surgical robotic system. Conducted by the team led by Prof. Xiaoyu Yin at the First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University, the study assessed the feasibility and safety of robot-assisted telesurgery for one of the most technically demanding abdominal procedures.

The study describes the treatment of a patient with pancreatic head adenocarcinoma in Nanning. Following multidisciplinary evaluation, pancreaticoduodenectomy was identified as the appropriate treatment option. To avoid the need for patient transfer, the procedure was performed remotely using the Toumai® surgical robotic system, with the operating team located in Guangzhou.
The operation lasted 470 minutes with an estimated blood loss of 50 mL. Postoperative pathology confirmed pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma with negative surgical margins (R0 resection), and 13 lymph nodes were harvested.

During the procedure, network transmission covered 2,840.9 km with a median bidirectional latency of 25 milliseconds. No network interruptions occurred, and real-time transmission of audio, video, and imaging data remained stable throughout the operation.
The patient ambulated on postoperative day two and was discharged on postoperative day twelve without reported complications. At one-month follow-up, no abnormalities were observed. Longer-term follow-up will be required to further evaluate oncological outcomes.
The authors concluded that, under appropriate network conditions, the Toumai® surgical robotic system demonstrated feasibility for highly complex remote pancreatic surgery and provides additional clinical evidence supporting continued research into advanced telesurgical applications.
