Toumai® Laparoscopic Surgical Robot Successfully Held the First Phase Training Course on Urology Animal Surgery of Jiangxi Province in the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanchang University

Nanchang, Jiangxi Province - China October 14, 2021, the Toumai® laparoscopic surgical robot (Toumai®), which was independently developed by Shanghai MicroPort MedBot (Group) Co., Ltd. (MicroPort® MedBot®) successfully held the first phase training course on minimally invasive robot surgery of urology in Jiangxi Province, with the strong support of Prof. Gongxian Wang of the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanchang University, a well-known urological expert in China, led by Prof. Bin Fu, director of urology department. This is the first training program of surgical robot animal experiment covering urological surgery experts in hospitals of several counties and cities nationwide.

 

This training was composed of 2 training sessions: The first session was basic composition and operation skills of Toumai®. Followed the instruction of the senior lecturer from Clinical Training Department of MicroPort ® MedBot® , the surgeons were grouped to complete the basic operations such as tissue suture and lymph node dissection assisted by Toumai®; The second part took urological surgery as the guidance, carried on the animal experiment to simulate the operation. From simple pelvic lymph node dissection to difficult ureterovesical replantation, Toumai® had successfully performed challenging surgical procedures such as tissue resection and structural reconstruction and had been highly recognized by all experts.

 

The 3D vision system of Toumai® provides surgeons with three-dimensional and real surgical field of vision. Intuitive master-slave teleoperation is sensitive and easy to handle. Wrist surgical instruments are highly flexible. On the basis of satisfying the requirements of elaboration dissociation, it simplifies surgical operation, shortens learning curve, and allows doctors to experience the differences and advantages of the Laparoscopic surgery and the Laparoscopic robotic surgery. The successful application of Toumai® in urological surgery in animal experiments laid a solid foundation for domestic surgical robot to assist doctors in complex surgery.
