Lanzhou, China —— The founding meeting of Gansu Provincial Robot Laparoscopy Clinical Training Base was held in Gansu Provincial Hospital on December 17, 2021. To speed up the application and popularization of Chinese-developed surgical robots in Gansu Province, Shanghai MicroPort MedBot (Group) Co., Ltd. (MicroPort^®MedBot^®) and Gansu Provincial Hospital jointly established the MicroPort® MedBot® Robotic Training Center. The launching ceremony concluded success at the opening ceremony of the meeting. Prof. Hui Cai, President of Gansu Provincial Hospital, Prof. Bo Yu, President of the Second People's Hospital of Lanzhou City, Prof. He Su, Director of General Surgery Department of Cadres Ward of Gansu Provincial Hospital, Prof. Yiping Li, Director of Division I, General Surgery Department of Gansu Provincial Hospital and Mr. Yu Liu, Chief Commercial Officer of MicroPort® MedBot® were present at the ceremony.

Prof. Hui Cai, President of Gansu Provincial Hospital, delivered a speech at the ceremony, "With the strong support of leaders at all levels, our hospital took the lead in setting up the Robot Laparoscopy Clinical Training Base in Gansu Province. We will rely on the construction of the National Project for Improving the Diagnosis and Treatment Ability of Difficult and Miscellaneous Diseases in Oncology, the Key Laboratory for Diagnosis and Treatment of Gastrointestinal Tumors under the National Health Commission, the Provincial Key Laboratory for Surgical Tumor Molecular Diagnosis and Accurate Treatment, and the Provincial Research Center for Prevention and Control of Digestive Tract Tumors, and combine the advantages of the National Resident Physicians Standardized Training Base and the Gansu General Practitioner Training Base, increase the investment in hardware facilities and faculty construction, further strengthen the management and improve the assessment mechanism, satisfy the standardized training tasks of laparoscopic and robot-assisted surgery in our province and Northwest China as a whole, promote the coordinated development of medical teaching and research, effectively improve the skills and scientific research innovation ability of clinicians of our province, raise the medical treatment quality, benefit the majority of patients, and contribute to the development of general surgery in our province!"

 Mr. Yu Liu, Chief Commercial Officer of MicroPort^® MedBot^®, said, "Thanks to Gansu Provincial Hospital, the hospital leaders, the general surgery and thoracic surgery teams led by Director Yuntao Ma and Director Yunjiu Gou, and all the experts who have devoted themselves to the development of Chinese-developed robots, the clinical enrollment for Toumai^® laparoscopic surgical robots of Urology Surgery has been completed with the strong support of experts, and the clinical enrollment of General Surgery, Gynecology and Thoracic Surgery is about to complete, indicating that the Chinese-developed surgical robots can provide services to more patients. The establishment of this training center will accelerate the process of realizing the substitution with Chinese-developed robots.  After the unveiling ceremony of the training base, Prof. Yuntao Ma, Executive Director of General Surgery Clinical Center of Gansu Provincial Hospital, reviewed the work of General Surgery Department of Gansu Provincial Hospital in 2021 under the normalized situations of epidemic. He made a summary from the aspects of fighting COVID-19 epidemic, ensuring medical quality and promoting discipline development, and made detailed plans for the next year in the following aspects: earnestly performing the duties of the General Surgery Quality Control Center in Gansu Province, implementing the normalization task requirements of epidemic prevention, improving the organization of the center, constructing and perfecting the graded quality control mechanism, continuing to improve the quality control system and standardized diagnosis and treatment system, building the central disciplines and strengthening the cultivation of general surgery talents of the province.

After the meeting, President Hui Cai led the presidents of the county-level hospitals in Gansu Province and the backbone of general surgery to visit the Robot Laparoscopy Clinical Training Base in Gansu Province. Director Yuntao Ma introduced the operating features and the experience of using the Chinese-developed surgical robots. Others made constructive advice and suggestions for the high-quality development of general surgery in Gansu Province and believe it is of great significance to seek common development, practice the initial goals, shoulder up the mission bravely, and make due contributions to the health of the northwest people.
